Governor Akpabio Of Akwa Ibom State Blew $10 Million On Vistajet On 25 Trips

Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State spent $10 million over a twenty-five trips or 600 hours of service. The governor hired a private jet, a Canadian Challenger 604 from Swiss-based Vista jet, an investigation by SaharaReporters has revealed.

Mr. Akpabio paid the sum to the jet charter company owned in part by Kola Aluko. Mr. Aluko is known to be quite close to Nigeria’s Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, and has been described as one of a few fronts for the minister’s extensive money laundering schemes.

Mr. Aluko was also instrumental to the private jet provided to the Nigerian Petroleum minister who caused the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to spent N10 billion naira to charter another Vista jet, Challenger 850 Aircraft marked OE-ILA which has now been moved out of Nigeria following an investigation launched by the House of Representatives.

The charter jet used by the governor was registered in Switzerland as OE-INI. The governor and his entourage used the jet on trips within Nigeria and Europe within the period. Records seen by SaharaReporters indicated that Mr. Akpabio spent close to $400,000 per day for the period of the jet charter, which started in January 2010.

Mr. Akpabio later purchased a Bombardier jet for $45 million in 2012. SaharaReporters reported exclusively on the governor’s purchase of the jet.

A few months after splurging on the jet, Governor Akpabio also bought a bullet-proof van from a US armory company for $1 million dollars.

In 2012, Vista jet made at least 900 trips within the Nigerian airspace using four jets that were making at least three landings per day.

Safety Tips for Women

safety-tips-for-women-confident-protection-careful-activity-emergency
1. Always be aware of your surroundings
This applies whether you are traveling alone or in groups. Don’t just focus inwardly on your thoughts if you are alone, or your friends if you are together. Keep one eye out for your environment, looking out for suspicious characters, possible danger, etc.
Also, don’t assume that because your area has been “safe” thus far, that it will continue to be so.
2. Travel in groups
“There is safety in numbers” is not just a cliche. Its true. Make a point of traveling together with other sisters, whether its on public transportation, on campus, in cars, etc.
3. Change the route you normally travel by
If you have taken the same bus, train or highway to get to work or school, change your route. Even if it takes you a little longer, your safety is more important. By changing your route, you can avert possible attacks or harassment from those who know your schedule, method and route of travel well. Please note though that you should avoid short cuts that take you through unfamiliar or unsafe areas.
4. Look confident
Walk with a straight posture and your arms swinging by your sides. Avoid slouching or walking like a victim. This makes you an easy target for attackers.
5. When riding by public transportation choose the right seat
If you are riding by bus or train, do not sit on the window seat as you may be “blocked in” by a potential assailant. Always select the seat next to the aisle so that you can quickly leave if necessary.
If you are taking public transportation alone after peak hours, sit as close to the driver as possible and/or choose the section of the bus/train that is most crowded. Try to get a seat near the exit as well.
6. If you are driving alone
Don’t think that if you are in a car, you are safe. Windows should be up and doors locked even when driving to avoid unwanted passengers at intersections. When you are walking to your car, always have your keys ready, so that you can quickly get into your car.
But don’t just get in right away. Always check your car before entering, especially the back, for any intruders.
7. Never leave your car door unlocked
Even if it means for one minute to drop something off in the mailbox that’s a few feet away. Attackers have been known to lie in wait for such an opportunity.
8. Be careful in parking lots
Always be alert in parking lots, especially when it’s dark. Ask someone to escort you to your car. Between cars and inside cars, it’s easy for someone to hide and wait until an unalert person comes along.
9. If you are traveling by taxi
Always check the identification of the driver (usually located near the visor) and ensure that it matches the driver. Once inside, don’t sit behind the driver as it may be easy for the driver to lock the rear passenger door. Always choose the adjacent seat .
In addition, avoid flagging taxis. Always order taxis so the driver can be traced if something happens.
10. Don’t use the Walkman
If you’re used to listening to your Walkman while outside, drop this habit, especially in isolated areas. With your Walkman on, you cannot hear the approach of a possible attacker.
11. Note “safe houses” along your route
Mentally note houses at intervals on each route you take that can be used as “safe houses” if you are attacked, such as shops or houses that you know to be occupied by a friend or acquaintance.
12. When you make a call from a phone booth
After dialing the number you wish to call always turn around so that you have your back to the phone and may see who or what is coming your way. You will then be able to tell the person to whom you are speaking that you may be in trouble and you may be able to use the weight of the phone as a weapon. The door of a telephone box could be used to wedge in the limbs of the attacker.
13. Do not open the door of your home without checking
DO NOT open the door to your home without first checking from a window, peephole or by asking and verifying who it is. Instruct children to do the same.
14. Report any suspicious activity around your home
If you see people loitering on the streets near your house, call the police on an emergency number and report it immediately without thinking too much.

“Sometimes, people say things out of moments of fury.
We take out our 99% frustrations at our loved ones, And even though we know that we ought to”think twice and act wisely”, we actually don’t do it. Things happen each day, many of which are beyond our control.”
*Try not to hurt your loved once, because a moment of anger could be a lifetime punishment.*

Ebola Epidemic Spreads To Guinea's Capital

A picture dated May 14, 1995 shows a patient affected by the deadly Ebola virus carried on a stretcher at the Kikwit hospital in DR Congo

An Ebola epidemic which has already killed dozens of people in Guinea's southern forests has spread to the capital Conakry, the United Nations Children's Fund said on Sunday.

"At least 59 out of 80 who contracted Ebola across the West African country have died so far. Over the past few days, the deadly haemorrhagic fever has quickly spread from the communities of Macenta, Gueckedou, and Kissidougou to the capital, Conakry," UNICEF said in a statement emailed to AFP.

Conakry, a vast, sprawling port city on Guinea's Atlantic coast, is estimated to have a population of between 1.5 and two million.

To date, no treatment or vaccine is available for Ebola, which kills between 25 and 90 percent of those who fall sick, depending on the strain of the virus, according to the World Health Organisation.

The disease is transmitted by direct contact with blood, faeces or sweat, or by sexual contact or unprotected handling of contaminated corpses.

UNICEF said at least three victims of the outbreak, which began on February 9, were children.
"This outbreak is particularly devastating because medical staff are among the first victims, so far it has killed at least eight health workers who have been in contact with infected patients, hindering the response and threatening normal care in a country already lacking in medical personnel," UNICEF said.

The organisation said it had rushed five tonnes of aid, including medical supplies, to the most affected areas in Guinea's south.

"In Guinea, a country with a weak medical infrastructure, an outbreak like this can be devastating," said the organisation's Guinea representative, Mohamed Ag Ayoya.

"UNICEF has pre-positioned supplies and stepped up communication on the ground to inform and sensitise medical staff and the population on how to avoid contracting Ebola."

The organisation urged Guineans not to attend funerals wherever possible and to avoid all contact with the sick and the dead.

Ebola, one of the world's most virulent diseases, was first discovered in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in 1976 and the country has had eight outbreaks.

The most recent epidemic, also in the DRC, infected 62 people and left 34 dead between May and November 2012, according to the country's health ministry.

There are fears it could be used in a biological weapons attack.

According to researchers, the virus multiplies quickly, overwhelming the immune system's ability to fight the infection.

Medical aid group Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said in a statement on Saturday it had set up isolation units for suspected cases in the southern region of Nzerekore and was seeking out people who may have had contacts with the infecte

Nigeria Budgets $1Billion To Fight Oil Theft

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan said Sunday at The Hague that the Federal Government has earmarked one billion U.S Dollars for the implementation of a comprehensive programme to check crude oil theft, the vandalism of oil and gas infrastructure, and the apprehension and prosecution of crude oil thieves.

Speaking at separate meetings with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mr. Mark Rutte and the Chief Executive Officer of Shell International, Mr. Ben van Beurden, President Jonathan said that a technical committee has already been set up to look into all aspects of the implementation of the programme.

This, the President said, will include further action to enhance the security of pipelines and other oil industry infrastructure, resolve community-related issues, boost youth empowerment in oil-producing areas and enhance the commitment of oil companies to the discharge of their corporate social responsibilities.

President Jonathan said that the fresh onslaught against oil theft planned by his administration will require the maximum co-operation of the international community, especially countries like the Netherlands which are major stakeholders in the global oil industry.

“Oil theft is an aspect of global terrorism, which has become a big industry on its own. It has become a major threat to the Nigerian economy and we need to work with all stakeholders to curb it. The thieves must be traced, apprehended and prosecuted”, the President who is in the Netherlands for the 2014 global Nuclear Security Summit said.

The Dutch Prime Minister assured the President of the commitment of the Netherlands to concerted action against crude oil theft and global terrorism.
Mr. Rutte who remarked that President Jonathan’s visit affirmed the strong ties between Nigeria and the Netherlands, also assured the President of the willingness of The Netherlands to collaborate more with Nigeria on environmental and security issues, particularly in the Niger Delta.

He praised Nigeria’s leadership role in promoting regional security in West Africa, and welcomed the signing of an agreement on immigration between both countries as well as the strong trade relations between Nigeria and The Netherlands.

“The President’s visit is an open testimony of the strong ties between Nigeria and Netherlands. Nigeria is Netherlands’ main trading partner in Africa and the Netherlands is the second biggest European investor in Nigeria,” the Dutch Prime Minister said.

Huh! Dora Akunyili Is Seriously Sick Yet Doctors Can't Find Anything

This is why many people don't like fighting for the masses while in office in Nigeria, because the cabal you are fighting will attack you with both physical and spiritual means. Is Dora Akunyili under spiritual attack?

Former minister of Information, Dora Akunyili, is seriously sick and under close medical supervision. Early in the year, it was reported that Madam Akunyili was suffering severe health challenges and was flown abroad for treatment. There were also reports that her husband, Chike Akunyili, had confirmed she was ill.

Her husband, Mr Akunyili, tried to downplay the issue. He had said:

“Yes, she suffered some minor health challenges but she is now okay. She is in the United States. I spoke with her today. What happened was that our son said she should come over and rest. You know all our children are abroad. She will soon return to the country and we will show up in a public gathering. There is a couple that wants us to sponsor their wedding. Both of us will appear in public. She is now okay.”

But members of their family are saying her situation is now getting critical...

Madam Akunyili, who did a good job in NAFADAC, fighting her Igbo brothers who are into fake drugs biz, has not been seen in any public event since November 16, 2013. Some of them threatened her openly then.

According to a relative of Mrs Akunyili, who spoke on condition of anonymity, she is currently having serious health challenges. The source said she has been flown to India for treatment but after series of medical tests, the doctors couldn’t diagnose the ailment.

”We are deeply concerned about our sister (Prof. Akunyili), her illness defies medical intervention,” the family source said. “She has been to India, the doctors could not diagnose her illness. She has visited Pastor Adeboye and yet her illness persists. This is worrisome, and distressing.”

Another source who visited her in her home in Abuja confirmed that Dora Akunyili's health is deteriorating.

Pray For Her!

A woman can also propose to a man - Pastor Sam Adeyemi

Leadership speaker and Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, Pastor Sam Adeyemi, while preaching on "Prepaper for the wedding", on Sunday March 16th, shared his opinion about women proposing to the man and also gave insight on how they can go about it. Below is what he said
"Some people may ask, Pastor is it okay for it to be the lady that will tell the guy about marriage? Well, is there anywhere in the bible that says a lady can't tell a man? The thing though is, a lot of time, it's better for the guy to pop the question because men become suspicious a lot of time when they are being chased. They like to eat meat that they chased in the bush. They don't like the one that falls on their lap dead. However., sometimes, all the signs are there that she is the one but he is not just speaking. Its also not healthy for the lady emotionally for the man to be so close to her and yet not say anything. So in such a case, a lady needs to prod him.
So how can a lady go about it? Ask him where are we going? I sense this is where the relationship is going, what do you think? Its either a yes or a no, but with that, you know where you are going instead of being on an emotional roller coaster and your heart is smashed into pieces at the end of the day".
Pastor Sam supported his position with the story of Ruth in the Bible who was taught to propose to Boaz whom she eventually married according to Ruth Chapter 3  in the Bible. He however emphasized the need for women to apply uttermost wisdom when proposing to a man.

I Miss My Husband”- Actress Patience Ozokwor (MUST READ)

Popular actress, Patience Ozokwor who is known for her very tough roles in movies showed a softer side in this new interview with Sun. The 56-year old actress…(who doesn’t look 56 even for a second!) shared the story of her husband, her inlaws and her love for kids which drove her to adopt 5 more children in addition to her own biological 3 kids.

The interview showed that Mama G, as she is popularly called, is an entirely different person from the roles she portrays in movies.

Read the interview below: -

How do you feel about all your achievements as an actress?
Stardom has taking me to so many countries in the world. I have been able to meet presidents of different nations. And I appreciate the fact that people commend and appreciate my acting skills whenever they meet me anywhere in Nigeria and outside the country, which gives me a great pleasure and ability to work harder, knowing that I have fans all over the world is worth celebrating.

How has Nollywood helped to transform Nigeria?
Our movies have been able to affect people’s lives as well as make them happy. In fact, Nollywood has transformed Nigeria’s image abroad positively and I am delighted to be part of this achievement.

Has your profession affected your life positively?
I have been able to assist my family financially through my work, my children were able to go to school and they are living a comfortable life with their families as graduates by the special grace of God. In fact, the movie industry has affected my life positively in every ramification and I don’t have any regret being an actress and I give God all the glory.

Have you achieved all that you set out to achieve?
I have not yet achieved everything, personally there are things that I have in mind to do in the industry, but when I look back there is nobody yet qualified to take over the mantle from me. And I pray that God will raise someone that will be better than me, which will be a great achievement to have someone who will replace me, when I finally leave the industry.

Would you support any of your children to go into entertainment?
My second son is already into entertainment, he has a music record label. While my daughter ended up in the church drama. Though, my son acted in few movies before he left for the United Kingdom, hopefully he may do more in acting or movie directing in the future. And I will give him every encouragement if he decides to go into acting professionally, because he is passionate about entertainment.

While growing up did you ever think of becoming a movie star?
I have always been an entertainer from childhood, so getting to the level I have attained in the industry is by the grace of God, consistency and hard work.
Could you share some of the experiences you had in your early days as an actress that almost discouraged you?
During my early days, sometimes when I get to location with a script, they would tell me someone has taken my place, which was so disappointing. But I endured and believed God for mine, and He gave me what belongs to me. Today, God has celebrated me as an icon and I give God all the glory.

Your husband died in 2000, precisely 14 years ago, how is life as a widow?
God has always been on my side because without Him there is nothing we can do. Again, I lived in the village, maybe if I were living in the city, things would be happening to me and nobody will know what I was passing through. And my people in the village know that I am always on location working either in the eastern part of the country or Lagos and Abuja. But when I am not working you will see me in the comfort of my home in the village. I appreciate my people for all their love and peaceful co-existence which I am enjoying. My husband’s family loves me so much, even before I became a star; we were so attached to each other. Everyone in the family calls me Patia; they are fond of me.
Are you saying you still live in the village?
I don’t live in the city; I still live in my village. It is nice to live in the countryside where everyone is everybody’s business. (Laughter).

Not minding the fact that you are a celebrity?
If you see the way people appreciate me in my village, whenever I go to the market to shop everyone will be calling me ‘Mama G’, ‘Gee’ for general, in fact, you will appreciate me more. But my office is located in Enugu town. So, I enjoy living in the village, my hometown. I still live my life of simplicity regardless of fame.

How do you manage to shuttle from the village to other parts of the country?
I have a guesthouse in Lagos where some of my jobs are concentrated like soaps, endorsements, commercials and shooting of movies. I have a three bedroom flat in Asaba. Because I am tired of staying in public hostels, some are sub-standard; and sometimes you run into small girls that you know. So, I decided to rent an apartment each in Lagos and Asaba for comfort. I have adopted children who I take on holidays, so because I would not like them to grow up in the village without being exposed to city life, when they are on long vocation and I am in Nigeria, I take them to Lagos or Asaba for a change of environment.

Your son had his wedding in the United Kingdom sometimes ago and your daughter also got married in Nigeria, how many children do you have?
I have three biological children. But because of my love for children, I adopted five other children who bear my name and I am very proud of them as my children. But I intend giving two among them to my younger sister to love as I have been doing. I am grateful to God for their lives, my son in-law and beautiful daughter-in-law I love you all.

Your late husband was supportive of your career, would you say you miss his presence now that you have hit stardom, especially being honoured with the Centenary award?
I wish my husband were alive to witness my Centenary award, because he was highly supportive of my career. Though, he was sick for a long time before he died, I wish he were still alive. But God knows the best. May his soul rest in perfect peace.

What did you really miss about him?
I miss the togetherness, when two people work together trying to train the children, bringing them up in unity and love. And all the affection he showered on us. I miss the way he celebrated my children’s birthdays, he was a true father and husband when he was alive. I miss my husband’s companionship and love.

Have you ever acted any role related with your experience as a widow?
Of course, one or two things that happened to you as a widow will definitely come up in the movies, but I have not acted any widowhood role that has to do with my experience as a widow negatively. My in-laws have been very supportive and caring; we have always lived like one big family. I always visit them in the United Kingdom, United States of America and those in Nigeria are united in love with me. When my husband was hospitalized, my sister-in-law and I were taking care of him; she stayed with him at nights while I took over from her in the morning before going to location. On that fateful day, I was on location when my husband died, before my sister in-law arrived the hospital. Thereafter, they informed me about his death and they put him in the mortuary and asked me to continue with my job, because they understand my kind of job, but I blatantly refused. I took permission from the producer and stayed away for some days. I later came back to finish the production of the movie.

Tell us about your parents?
My parents were loving and caring, I miss them so much. My mother was a popular trader. I never had it rough as a child, I only had it rough when my husband fell sick, but my in-laws did not leave me, they took care of my husband’s hospital bills. It’s just that you don’t have to wait for people to survive; instead you struggle to make life meaningful for yourself.

You are looking younger and beautiful even at your age, are you thinking about remarrying?
It is not about my look but my age. I am not thinking about remarrying. Since my husband died, I have been rearing my children to the glory of God. And I decided to occupy my mind on my job and service to God to give my children the best in life.

How old are you now?
I was born on March 25,1958, so do the calculation.

At 56, you are looking elegant. What is the secret behind your healthy look?
God is the secret behind my ageless look, and I also eat what my body needs, I take a lot of fruits and exercise when it’s necessary. And most imperatively, I don’t drink alcohol because I have realized that alcohol does a lot of damage to the body and makes you look older than your age.

Nollywood producers have stereotyped you with roles that make you get bad remarks, how have these roles affected your life?
I don’t owe anybody any apology for the roles I play, because I get paid for them and it is my job. It is only people who don’t understand that acting is make belief that perceive an actor to be living his or her life the way she acts on set. If I could read my script and interpret the role to get the best production, it means I understand acting.

Who is Patience Ozokwor outside the set?
I am a very loving mother, nice, caring, jovial, understanding, and above all God fearing. But I don’t take nonsense because I am a disciplinarian.

You attended teachers training college were you nursing the idea of becoming a teacher?
I attended teachers training college in Afikpo; and then I proceeded to IMT, Enugu where I studied Fine and Applied Arts, specializing in Graphics. But I am a not a teacher today, because my interest is in acting where my passion also lies.

Huh! Muslim baby Born With Tesbah(Rosery) PHOTOS

This is super serious, i have never seen anything like this before in my life, a child born with a rosery? This child must be a special child, God is good, read the full story and known how it happens

A baby Muhammad Mustapha was born with a white Muslim rosary,  tesbah, round his neck in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

According to his 40-year-old father, Isa Umar, the baby was born at home on Friday, February 28, 2014 at about 11a.m and that's his 9th child as he already had 3 boys and five girls.

Isa said, "Interestingly, none of my children was born with any miraculous sign like this baby. He was born normally like the other children but the difference was that he came to this world with a white tesbah round his neck."

Umar revealed that his wife had a dream during her pregnancy which he advised they keep to themselves and be prayerful about.

Her dream eventually became a reality as people, including the village head (Sarki) of Wailo, Alhaji Iliya Musa, have kept coming to the settlement and his house has turned into a Mecca of sort as people keep trooping in to take a look at the baby.

According to Umar, revered Islamic scholar, Sheikh Usman Dahiru Bauchi on hearing of the birth of the baby sent a vehicle to the settlement to convey the family and the baby to Bauchi, where the cleric prayed for the baby and the family and showered the baby with material and cash gift.

Also speaking, the mother of the baby, Balki, who said she was 27-year-old said, "when I first saw the Tesbah round his neck, I was initially afraid and was asking what type of baby is this. Despite the fear, I was still very much sure that he is a human being. People around kept telling me that I should not fear anything that what I gave birth to is a miracle baby."

Reacting to the incident, the National Secretary of Dawa’ah Coordinating Council of Nigeria (DCCN), Ustaz Ahmad Gumba, said it was not something to be celebrated but calls for sober reflection by all.

1.He said there will be a terrorist hijack of a plane in Nigeria between April and May which will lead to Plane crash,It will be very devastating. Please note, this man on the day the Dana Air crash occurred asked us to stop the service and pray seriously, that God revealed a plane crash to him as we were in the church that its the plan of the witches,we were all thrown into panic and started praying,i guess it was rather too late or was it that we didn't pray enough?or is it that there were few tongues that prayed,i still don't know why few hours after God showed my pastor,I saw the news about the Dana Crash.I almost ran mad.

2.He said God said some Governors will be kidnapped and its politically motivated..and in the course of it,if force is applied, lives will be lost
More below

3.He said ''God said The National conference is a Charade. that is not will good intentions, that he doesnt have a hand in it.The motive is not for the interest of many but minority

4.The 2015 Election is not Feasible, the person that will rule Nigeria will come from the middle belt.

5.Boko Haram will still die a Natural Death

6.When i asked what God said about the Missing Malaysian Plane,He said it was a diversion by a terrorist group. He didn't give me further details.

The person who sent this to me wrote down reasons why I should publish this...
"He always sees visions, they always come true,If i told you many more that he had seen and came to past,it would be as if i am advertising my pastor.
But you know why i want you to publish this? Its because this vision concerns Nigeria. We need to seriously pray because i know God is the only helper we have.if thousands
of tongues can pray on this,God can avert this evil awaiting to befall Nigeria.I know alot of people come to your blog, this is a way to save lives from perishing by encouraging people not to only read this for reading sakes but to let us pray.If you keep quiet and don't publish this and all these happened when you could have made a difference, would you be happy??
I kept quiet before the Dana Crash but i told myself it won't happen again,i don't want any guilt in my heart.
You can make mention of no 1 and 2 only.and wait if you will see any reasons to publish the rest after because even if
God will still answer our prayers,he will still show us the bigger picture of what could have happened if not that he intervened."

‘I Don’t Have Time For This!’ – Why Rotimi Amaechi Left Paul Okoye’s Wedding

Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, stormed out of the traditional marriage ceremony of Paul Okoye barely 30 minutes after he arrived, because the ceremony did not start on time.

Quote
Governor Rotimi Amaechi couldn’t understand why the event had not begun by 2pm when it was billed to start by 12pm.

The governor came in around 2pm and, as he alighted from his vehicle, his aides informed him that the event had not started and neither the couple nor celebrity guests had arrived.

He responded, ‘If we wait for some time and they don’t come, we will leave. I don’t have time for all this.’

The governor posed for photos before entering the hall. However, barely 30 minutes later, a visibly unimpressed Amaechi walked out of the hall accompanied by his aides and drove out of the event premises.

The marriage ceremony, which was billed to start by 12pm, did not commence till around 2:45pm.

Jeez, Nigerians really need to start keeping to time!

Video! MH370 Confirm Crashed Into Indian Ocean Malaysian President Speech!

KUALA LUMPUR, March 24 — Datuk Seri Najib Razak confirmed today that the missing Malaysia Airlines jetliner MH370 “ended” its journey in the southern Indian Ocean, a location he described as remote and far from any possible landing site.

The prime minister, speaking at an emergency press conference at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here, stopped short, however, of saying the Boeing 777 aircraft that has been missing for 17 days now, had crashed into the vast ocean.

He said fresh data gleaned from British satellite firm Inmarsat confirmed that the plane had continued its journey towards the southern Indian Ocean and not along the northern arc, which was one of the possible sites identified earlier.

“Its last position was in the middle of the Indian Ocean west of Perth. This is a remote location... far from any possible landing site.

“It is therefore with deep sadness and regret that I must inform you that according to this new data, flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean,” he said.

Explaining, Najib said he was informed of the development by representatives from the UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB).

He said Inmarsat had performed more calculations on data it had collected earlier from MH370’s track marks, using a type of analysis “never before used” in such an investigation.

The somber-faced Najib then urged the media to respect the families of those on board and allow them some space to grieve, saying tonight’s news would hit them hard.

A press conference will be held tomorrow to shed more light on the investigation, which has now moved into a search and recovery operation instead of a search and rescue effort.

The Boeing 777 aircraft disappeared off the coast of Kota Baru, Kelantan, less than an hour after take-off at 12.41am on March 8 and has remained missing ever since.

Early investigations saw searchers concentrated on the waters off Malaysia’s east coast — in the South China Sea and between Malaysia and Vietnam — where the plane was last heard from before it lost contact with the Subang Air Traffic Control (ATC).

But local military radar later spotted the plane flying westwards, forcing the authorities to redirect its search efforts to the Straits of Malacca.

More information from foreign military and satellite data then confirmed the plane’s flight to the west of Malaysia, hundreds of miles away from its original flight path to Beijing.

According to data from British satellite firm Inmarsat on March 14, its satellite registered “routine, automated signals” from the missing Malaysia Airlines aircraft during its flight from Kuala Lumpur.

On March 15 — a week after MH370’s disappearance — Najib told a press conference that Malaysia would call off the search at the South China Sea and Straits of Malacca.

Search troops were then redirected troops to scour two corridors — a northern arc from northern Thailand to the border of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan in central Asia, or a southern one from Indonesia to the southern Indian Ocean.

On March 20, authorities in Australia announced what they said was a possible breakthrough in the two-week hunt for MH370.

Satellite images taken by DigitalGlobe, a Colorado satellite imaging company, four days earlier showed at least two objects in the Indian Ocean, south of the search zone for MH370 that Australia was leading.

The largest of the objects found measured 24 metres or 79 feet in length, Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) Emergency Response division general manager John Young said at then.

Since then, much focus has been given to the search south of the vast Indian Ocean.

Over the weekend and earlier today, several reports of alleged “debris” streamed it from the French, Australian and Chinese — some picked up by search planes, some via satellite images.
