Rachael Oniga: How A Woman Snatched My Husband

Veteran Nollywood actress Rachael Oniga in this recent interview with the Entertainer revealed how her darling husband, now late, divorced her for another woman.

She also discussed her journey into Nollywood and many other issues:

Interview excerpt:

On how she joined Nollywood, she said

“I started in 1993 after I got separated from my husband; he’s late now. I was a fulltime housewife and before then a computer programmer. After the separation I just said I was not going back into the labour market. So, I went into business trading, traveling and buying things and all of that. Fortunately, I met Uncle ‘Layi Ashadele and he said to me, ‘why don’t you try acting?’ So, I gave it a try and I was invited to the set of Memorial Hospital. That was how the journey started.”

So why didn’t you remarry?

I believe so much in myself, and when I got over the shock of the separation and all that, I made up my mind that I was going to make a statement without a man. I wanted to prove that a hardworking woman could make an impact and with God’s grace I have come a long way.

There’s been no scandal around you. How were you able to handle that?

The truth is that when you’re focused and you know where you’re going to, you’re likely to succeed. I made up my mind then that I wasn’t going to remarry. I was determined to make it and make all men including my late husband know that with God by her side, a woman can make it in life without a man’s support.

That means he hurt you real bad?

Yes. During our years of courtship and marriage, I never suspected that we would just break up like that or anything could ever come between us. Back then he told me everything. I could tell you where he was at every moment; I trusted him so much.

Did you ever get to meet the other woman?

It was later, much later and when I did I was like ‘did he leave me because of this thing?’ I don’t know how to put it but men don’t really appreciate what they have until they lose it.

What advice do you have for women in similar situations?

Just believe in yourself and with hard work you will get there. God is always faithful. I killed my emotions and I said to myself ‘Rachael, your kids must go to the best schools.’ It was just work and my children.

Chinedu Ikedieze – Osita was never a threat from the first day we met

Connecting to an individual you barely know usually varies.

Whereas some people take time to even say hi to each other much less get to begin any form of conversation, Aki and Porpo’s meeting from the first day was surreal. The pair has since then gone on to make countless movies together and become best of friends.

Commenting about their friendship, Chinedu Ikedieze intimated that what made things work well for them was because he never saw Osita Iheme as a threat from the very first day they met:

“When I first met Osita, I never saw him as a threat. He is my friend and a good actor, so I don’t have issues with him and we both keep regular contacts.”

America Joins The Search For The Abducted 200 School Girls

The United States of America and Britain have joined the search for the 200 girls abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno, by the dreaded Boko Haram sect.

Nigerian soldiers had initially claimed that it had rescued all but 18 of the girls. But the school principal, Asabe Kwabura, debunked the military's claim. Also, parents who tried to rescue the children from Sambisa Forest where they are reportedly being kept by Boko Haram had to turn back when they learnt that the sect was heavily armed and that they might lose their lives if they should move further into the forest.

But giving the new development, already some critical arrests have been made...
On Friday the British Foreign Secretary, William Hague, said his country had begun talks with Nigeria over the incident. He stated this in a response made available to Punch by spokesperson of British High Commission in Abuja, Mr. Robert Fitzpatrick.

“The appalling abduction in northern Nigeria on April 14 is a stark reminder of the threat of sexual violence faced by women in conflict prone areas. I am very concerned that the majority of the girls are still missing. I spoke to Nigerian Foreign Minister, Wali, about this case on 18 April, and we are talking to Nigerian authorities about how best to assist in their efforts to secure the girls’ release and bring those responsible to justice.”
It was gathered that among those that have been arrested is a security guard at the school and some members of the Chibok community, whose names came up during the military’s interaction with some of the girls who escaped from the insurgents.

The source stated, “The whole emphasis is on intelligence gathering; and that is why the Federal Government is contacting the US and the UK to assist in the area of intelligence gathering. Another thing you must know is that several arrests have been made, and a lot of efforts are being made.

“The security guard at the school in Chibok is being quizzed and some people from the community too have been arrested.”
It would be recalled that the girls were kidnapped in their hostel on April 14 after members of Boko Haram sect, pretending to be soldiers, lured the pupils away from their hostel before setting the building ablaze.

Coffee Reduces Risk Of Diabetes

Drinking more coffee may further reduce the risk of diabetes, say researchers.
Increasing consumption by one and a half cups a day cuts the chances of developing type 2 diabetes by 11 per cent.
Although previous research suggested coffee drinkers benefit from a reduced risk of diabetes, it now appears an individual’s risk can be further improved by stepping up consumption.
Dr Frank Hu and Dr Shilpa Bhupathiraju, from the Department of Nutrition at Harvard University’s School of Public Health, looked at the link between changes in coffee consumption and diabetes risk.
They used data from three US-based studies including the Nurses’ Health Study with participants ranging from 25 to 75 years.
Detailed information on diet, lifestyle, medical conditions, and other chronic diseases was collected every two to four years for over 20 years.
Participants whose coffee intake fell by one or two cups a day had a 17 per cent higher risk for type 2 diabetes.
