Clarion Chukwura Blasts AGN Over Viisit To Presidency

Clarion Chukwura

Nollywood diva, Clarion Chukwura speaking in an interview on Wednesday, described the recent visit to the President Goodluck Jonathan, by President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ibinabo fiberesima, as uncalled for.

According to Chukwura, AGN is the guild that represents the English movie industry actors and not Association of Nigerian Theartre Arts Practitioners ANTAP, or Kannywood.

“Ibinabo's request for a secretariat or an office in Abuja is out rightly out of her office. That means that she does not know what her office is,” the mother of Clarence Peters said in the interview.

The Nollywood actress advised that instead of stressing themselves, ‘they should sit on a round table to agree on a conference that will unify this association into one body rather than this fragmentation.’

‘AGN, should concentrate on the welfare of the actors rather than unnecessary issues,’ she added.

Meanwhile, effort by Nigeriafilms.com to speak with Ibinabo on this matter was unsuccessful as her phone number was not going through when we tried calling her. However, an officer of the Guild, who begged anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to us, claimed Clarion is not a card carrying member of AGN.

The source further alleged that Clarion is bitter because Ibinabo did not invite her for the visit to President Goodluck Jonathan some weeks ago. 'If she was on the delegate to Aso Rock, would she have said what she is saying? Clarion is even not a card carrying member of AGN. Let her go and sit down and stop making noise about,' the source said.

Leaked Video Exposes PM: Boko Haram Weapons Shipped To Nigeria From Turkey

Turkey allegedly shipped weapons to unidentified groups in Nigeria, which has been ravaged by violence between the army and Boko Haram militants, a new incriminating phone call revealed on Tuesday.

The leaked conversation is the latest blow to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has been hit by a corruption probe ensnaring his key allies and a widening phone-tapping scandal.

In a tape posted on YouTube, Mehmet Karatas, an assistant executive of the airline, allegedly tells Mustafa Varank, an advisor to Erdogan, that he feels guilty over national flag carrier’s arms shipment to Nigeria.

“I do not know whether these (weapons) will kill Muslims or Christians. I feel sinful,” Karatas is allegedly heard saying.

The leaked call has the potential to harm the airline’s image — which is 49 percent state-owned and is in an aggressive push to become a global player.

It is the latest in a series of recordings implicating Erdogan and his aides in corruption and other abuses of power ahead of crucial local polls on March 30.

The Turkish strongman has dismissed most of the tapes as “vile” fakes put together by rivals.

Mori Gabriella, Lady Severely Beaten up by Boyfriend & Left to Die Has Recovered

Remember Mori Gabriella ? The young model that was beaten up by her boyfriend three weeks ago. Gabriella’s boyfriend had constantly questioned her about cheating and flirting. And on that fateful day in a fit of rage, he beat her up so bad, threw her out of his moving vehicle and left her to die.

Well, I just checked up on Gabriella and boy, she has made a full recovery! Pictures are all after the cut plus
her courageous words. You also recall that after Gabriella’s story went viral, some people came up with stories that Gabriella’s bf beat her up cos she gave him HIV. To the best of my knowledge, that story isn’t true. The allegations even made Gabriella delete the picture of her abuse from Instagram.

Many Nigerian Policemen are dying silently from kidney disease

Worldwide, the incidence of  End Stage Renal Disease, ESRD, is increasing by 6 to 7 percent every year and about 16 million (10 percent) of  160 million Nigerians are suffering from kidney disease. Apart from high cost of treatment and kidney transplants, patients are faced with challenges sustaining their treatment for life as they are expected to be on drugs and ensure regular checks from time to time. In  this chat with CHIOMA OBINNA, kidney transplant survivor, Bartholomew Osuji, a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, relates his experience as a Policeman and his life after transplant. He expresses worry over the lack of any form of support or insurance for Policemen who come down with ESRD: Excerpts: ‘IT all began one evening in 2008 when I was a Police Officer on incident duty in Anthony area of Lagos. We encountered armed robbers. I was alone in the car, my boys were not with me although nearby around 11pm.  I never knew the occupants of the vehicle were armed robbers until they got close and opened fire at the Police van.  Luckily I did not sustain any bullet wound. I shouted to my men to return fire and we were able to gun down one of them.  After that incident, I was no longer myself. I went to the hospital and was told it was shock from the armed robbery incident.” Bartholomew was taken to various hospitals without tangible investigations until 2009, when he ended up at Reddington Hospital in Victoria Island, where he was diagnosed with Chronic  Kidney Failure, CKF, and was eventually rushed to India. Role of the Nigeria Police At this point life became tough. Bartholomew’s  family expected the Nigeria Police to come in as their bread winner’s problem began while  he was on duty. Unfortunately, his employers  failed him and even indicted him. “The Police did not take any part in my treatment.  They claimed that I did not get any paper from the Federal Minister of Health and Police Affairs before I was flown to India. I told them I was flown to India unconscious.  My son went to Abuja twice while I was in India, but nothing came out of it to date. When I returned, I went to the Police and I was told the same thing. Policemen dying: “Many Police men are dying of kidney disorders today because of lack of money. The Nigeria Police will not do anything. At Falomo Barracks where I lived, three Policemen have died since I returned from India. The transplant was financed by the Church of Assumption, Falomo. Reverend Father Innocent who was in charge at that  time was of good help to my family. It was he who contacted some parishioners who rose to the occasion. . And that was how I got to India for treatment. Life after kidney transplant After the transplant, things have changed. I cannot do as much as before.  I was warned not to strain myself.  I have been on drugs since the surgery.  In a day, I take drugs five times. To  date, I don’t know who paid the initial US$15,000  the Indian hospital demanded before I was given my visa. My last check up in India was also a miracle. Before I got to the hospital, someone had paid US$1,000  into my account. Now, I drink water faithfully, I don’t eat anyhow again.  As I go out, I prepare my food.  I abide by the doctor’s instruction that  I will never miss my drugs. That is how I have been managing my life.” Coping with cost of drugs Every September /October, I go for check up in India and each time I require about  US$10,000 because I must buy the drugs I will use for one year. But I go for regular check up at St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos. I was to go every two weeks, sometimes I do that monthly because of the funds involved. The drugs are not cheap. I have been able to cope with the assistance of my Church and my family. Call to Government While I was in India, I learnt that the Lagos State government is working towards building a cardiac centre, Government should do that as quickly as possible. In the hospital in India,  many of the doctors are Nigerians.  A boy of eight years who did the surgery with me on the same day died last year. There is need for  government to invest in this line because many of our people are dying. I thank God I am alive today because of people who contributed to my transplant surgery. I don’t even know them all, particularly the person who paid for the last US$10,000 for my check up. I advise people to believe God in all things. All the period I was sick, I told my wife that nothing happens without God knowing it.  If you believe God, he will deliver you. I would also remain grateful to my wife.  She went through a lot throughout the period. The eight months were not easy for her.”

NYSC Offers Ex-Corp Member N100,000 (£500) For Losing His Right Leg

A former corps member, Emmanuel Unogu, has been offered N100,000 by the National Youth Service Corps for the loss of his right leg during the service year.

Unogu, who served with the Urueffong/Oruka Local Government, Akwa Ibom State in 2008, was involved in an auto accident, which later led to the loss of his leg.
It was reported on April 18, 2013 that Unogu was involved in the accident while on his way to Oron on October 26, 2008.
Although the state’s NYSC authorities were said to have been aware of the accident, Unogu allegedly did not receive proper medical attention.
By the time he contacted his father who took him to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, Imo State, Unogu’s broken leg had been infected with gangrene. The leg was later amputated due to the infection.
It was learnt that the NYSC eventually called the former corps member in February 2014 to intimate him of the organisation’s plan.
Unogu said, “After my lawyer had written many times to the NYSC, I got a call from them for the first time last month. A woman from  the NYSC office Abuja told me that she wanted to confirm my identity. She told me that I would be paid N100,000 as compensation.
“Another person called me three weeks later to say that a cheque of N100,000 was being prepared and asked me for an account number that it would be paid into.
“Last week, another man called again. He said I should expect the cheque this week. I asked the man what the cheque was for; was the NYSC paying for the amputation of my leg or was the money meant to acquire a prosthetic leg?
“When I began to question the man, he had no reply. He just sympathised with me and asked me to take heart.”
In response to Unogu’s enquiries in 2008, the London Prosthetic Center had sent an estimate of £4,000 for a prosthetic leg, excluding transport.
Unogu’s lawyer, Mr. Benjamin Odeh, said that copies of the correspondence with the prosthetic hospital were attached to the letters sent to the NYSC office in Abuja concerning Unogu.
Already, the Akwa Ibom secretariat of the NYSC was said to have given N290,000 to Unogu as a refund on the amount he incurred as medical expenses while on admission at the FMC, Owerri.
Unogu said, “I was told by the NYSC, Akwa Ibom, after they refunded my medical expenses, that the rest was left for Abuja. But from the look of things, I don’t think the NYSC national secratariat is going to do anything reasonable. What I need now is the funds to get a prosthetic leg so I can live a normal life.”
Odeh expressed his disappointment at the N100, 000 that was offered as compensation to the former corps member.
He said, “It is unthinkable that a youth that was compulsorily enrolled to serve his country and lost his limb in the process, is being offered N100,000.
“What exactly is the money for? Is Unogu being paid for the amputation? As it is, we intend to file a suit against the Federal Government. The Attorney General of the Federation and the NYSC will be joined in the suit for the injustice Unogu has suffered.”
When the Assistant Director, Press, of the NYSC, Mr. Edie, was contacted, he said, “Has the person been paid? If he has not, then there is not much I can say. However, I am currently away from Abuja; I will be back next week. By then, I will be able to give you an informed response.”

Terrible: Pastor Machetes Wife Because She Didn’t Attend Church Programme

An Ogun State Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Owode Egba, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, yesterday, remanded a Pastor, Samuel Daniel in prison for using a machete on his wife.
