On Sunday, 11th May 2014 ‘holy war’ broke out between Christian and Muslim youths in Kachia LGA of Kachia town in Kaduna State, Nigeria. The fighting youths destroyed churches and mosques in the community. When asked about the situation, Kaduna state Police command assured that the situation was under control, and that no life was lost in the serious fight, but warned that a 24-hour curfew had been imposed on the Kachia area by the state government.

He also said that for now, they have no idea about how many  Churches and Mosques have been destroyed in the fight, but that it would be made known to the public as soon as they are able to come out with figures.
According to eyewitness account, the whole trouble started when some youths went to make a fence around a prayer-ground against encroachment, only to discover that a part of the land, which had earlier on been renovated and fenced had been destroyed by unknown persons.

The unhappy youths reported the incident to the local government Chairman, Mr. Peter Agaite, who promised to pay the bill of the renovation of the damaged portion, but he was yet to fulfill the promise he made to them, when yesterday being Sunday, the youth got there and saw another damage done to the prayer ground.
It was at this instant, that the Muslim youths suspected members of a nearby Church to be responsible for the damages, and so they went ahead to demolish the church.
Christian youths on hearing about the demolition of a Church allegedly burnt nearby mosques in retaliation before the Police came could control the situation.
